CWO Verner was appointed in June 2021 as the Formation Sergeant Major (Army Training Sgt Maj) at The Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Center. As a secondary duty, in June 2021 he was also appointed by his Infantry Regiment, The Royal Canadian Regiment, in the role of Regimental Sergeant Major (RCWO).

The Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR) is an infantry regiment of the Canadian Army. The regiment consists of four battalions, three in the Regular Force and one in the primary reserve. The RCR is ranked first in the order of precedence amongst Canadian Army infantry regiments, but in a quirk of the rules of seniority, its 4th battalion is ninth.

3 RCR was one of two infantry battalions that formed Canada's commitment to NATO. It assumed duties from 3 Mechanised Commando, Canadian Airborne Regiment in 1977. It was stationed in Baden-Söllingen, Germany, as part of 4 CMBG.

Formed in 1883, the Regiment is well into its stride of serving Canada with its characteristic mix of courage, chivalry and dash. In the simplest terms, the purpose of The Royal Canadian Regiment is to fight. That is, to fight in defence of Canada and Canada’s vital interests.

Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Scott Howell enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1998 in Ottawa, Ontario. He completed artillery training and was posted to the 2nd Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, in Petawawa, Ontario.
