RCTI is the first privately-owned television channel in Indonesia, launched on 24 August 1989 by a joint venture of Bimantara Citra and Rajawali Corpora. Since 2003, it is owned by MNC Asia Holding through its namesake subsidiary Media Nusantara Citra .

Sejak awal berdiri, logo RCTI merupakan penggayaan dari tulisan RCTI. Awalnya dari tahun 1988 hingga 2000 digunakan logo di mana huruf R digantikan dengan kepala rajawali lengkap dengan sepasang cakar beserta sayap corak merah-hijau-biru, dan dari matanya "terpancar" garis merah putih, sedangkan CTI berbentuk garis-garis.
