DIR® is the Developmental, Individual-differences, and Relationship-based model (pronounced saying each letter as an initialism: D.I.R.). DIR provides a foundational framework for understanding human development and learning and how each person individually perceives and interacts with the world differently.

Relationship Development Intervention (RDI) is a family-based, behavioral treatment which addresses the core symptoms of autism. It focuses on building social and emotional skills. Parents are trained as the primary therapist in most RDI programs.

ICDL offers many live-online and in-person courses and conferences all year long.

DIRFloortime® is a developmental approach to the treatment of children with autism and other developmental challenges. In DIRFloortime, a parent or other adult interacts with a child in a way that is sensitive to the subtleties of the child’s actions, humanistically infers emotion and intent, and seeks to understand and respond to their ideas.

RDI is based on developmental milestones so what RDI does, or does not do, has nothing to do with concern over ABA. Here is the difference. RDI celebrates the Mindfulness of the child at the exact moment that the child makes a discovery.

DIR practices are designed to entice a child into positive playful interactions that can facilitate social and emotional growth. Practices are individualized and based on the child’s unique strengths and needs and level of development.

ICDL has the original and official DIR® and DIRFloortime® (AKA Floortime®) training program. Beginning with the DIR 101: An Introduction to DIR® and DIRFloortime® all the way through our DIRFloortime® Expert Training Leader course, we offer DIRFloortime® courses throughout the world and live online.
