The RDI PowerLite is a series of SPARC-based laptops and mobile workstations marketed by RDI Computer Corporation. PowerLite models were all based on Sun's sun4m architecture, and were fully compatible with all operating systems and software developed for them.

RDI PowerLite are SPARC-based RISC laptops for Unix computing, introduced by RDI in 1994 at a time when most mobile computers were PC notebooks with Intel 486 processors. Main competition for the PowerLite were Tadpole SPARCbook and iconic Sun SPARCstation Voyager for mobile Solaris use.

RDI UltraBooks are SPARC64-based RISC laptops for mobile Unix computing, introduced by RDI in 1997 to be used as a portable Solaris workstation for training, demonstrations, exhibitions and portable deployment (C&C). UltraBooks are binary compatible with Sun workstations for standard Sun Solaris Unix.

RDI PrecisionBooks are portable PA-RISC workstations, released by RDI in 1998, shortly before the takeover by Tadpole. They were based on HP 9000 C132L workstations in a portable case and marketed as first HP-UX laptops.

It’s likely this was the fastest laptop of 1996, for a short moment. Much like how the 240mhz PowerBook 3400 set records for a short moment.

2019年9月16日 · RDI made, as far as I can tell, three distinct laptop lines, the beige luggable "BriteLite", the PowerLite, and the Ultrabook, before being acquired by their competitor, which continued to make updates for the Ultrabook line for a few years. There were only two manufacturers of SPARC laptops, RDI and Tadpole Computer.
