The REO Motor Car Company was a company based in Lansing, Michigan, which produced automobiles and trucks from 1905 to 1975. At one point, the company also manufactured buses on its truck platforms. Ransom E. Olds was an entrepreneur who founded multiple companies in the automobile industry. In 1897 Olds founded Oldsmobile.

Started in 1973, the REO Club of America is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the cars and trucks of the REO Motor Car Company. The club has grown to over 700 members from the United States, Canada, Mexico, as well as, 16 countries around the world.

Following a legal threat from the Olds Motor Works, the R.E. Olds Company's name was changed to the REO Car Company (which later became the REO Motor Car Company). On October 8, 1910 the investors also formed the REO Motor Truck Company to manufacture trucks, eventually known as "speedwagons."

REO's most famous cars were the REO Flying Cloud, introduced in 1927, and the REO Royale of 1931. The Flying Cloud was the first car to feature Lockheed's new hydraulically actuated inner brake (drum brake).

The REO publications collection contains several different publications relating to the REO Motor Car Company. The publications in the collection are: REO EchO (1906-1911), REO Spirit (1928-1933), REO - Items (1952-1953), REO EchO (1974-2012) and REO Spirit (2002-2013).

The Reo Motor Car Company Plant was situated in an industrial area near downtown Lansing. Eight buildings at the Reo factory were designated a National Historic Landmark on June 16, 1978.
