The RG-33 is a mine-resistant light armored vehicle initially designed by BAE Systems Land Systems South Africa (formerly Land Systems OMC), a South African subsidiary of BAE Systems. BAE Systems in the US extensively modified it with additional protection, new powertrain, and suspension systems.

The RG33 is a family of MRAP vehicles, available in several configurations including the category I 4×4, category II 6×6, the heavy armored ground ambulance (HAGA) and the special operations command (SOCOM) vehicle. BAE Systems manufactured three of the US Marine Corps' five variants of MRAP vehicles: the Caiman, the RG31 and the RG33.

The RG-33 Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected vehicle (MRAP) is a 4x4 mine-protected armored vehicle. The special operations variant of the RG-33 has been used by SOCOM units since Summer 2008 and has been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

2024年6月7日 · The RG33 SOCOM of the U.S Army is equipped with a XM153 CROWS II (Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station). The CROWS II turret can be armed with a M2 .50 cal machine gun or MK-19 40mm grenade launcher.

The RG-33L 6x6 MRAP (along with its smaller RG-33 4x4 sibling) was one of the many new vehicle types created as a result of the US’ 2007 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle Program (MRAP).

The M1238 RG-33 Special Operations Command (SOCOM) 4x4 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle is the only variant of the RG-33 4x4 MRAP. In fact, the SOCOM variant was produced in much larger numbers than its base vehicle predecessor.
