The introduction of standardized colours in 1936 also saw the introduction of the first camouflage pattern, intended for land based bombers. It was comprised of RLM 61,62 and 63 in a three tone splinter scheme over a RLM 65 underside. The scheme was first used on the new Junkers Ju 86 bombers, and the Dornier Do 17 bombers soon afterwards.

During World War Two, under Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring's leadership, the Reichsluftfahrt Ministerium (RLM) established a system of standardised colours. They were distributed to manufacturers and Luftwaffe units in Luftwaffe Service Regulation 521/1 (Luftwaffen Dienstvorschriften 521/1) or L.Dv. 521/1 for short.

RLM – COLOURS OF THE GERMAN LUFTWAFFE The aircrafts of the German LW (Luftwaffe) in WWII were painted with standardized paints. The colours of this paints were registered as RLM# (Reichs Luftfahrt Ministerium). In certain regulations it was exactly determined where and when the colours had to be used.

RLM 99 - in that “99” does not denote any specific colour; it’s the code that was used for substances for which the colour did not matter: putties, protective lacquers, and such. Prior to 1943 it was represented by “-”, but a numerical code was introduced in the Luftwaffen-Verordnungsblatt dated 1943-04-05. References Used.

This chart includes all known RLM colors, the color RLM 84 is not given, since this color did not officially exist. Also not given is RLM 99 where 99 means shade irrelevant. RLM 00 means clear vanish.
