Oct 1, 2014 · My truck has recently started to run rich. It is straight piped with a gutted cat. Has been for several months an it has ran fine. It just sounds like it is struggling and when I am driving it smells of gasoline very badly. Have checked fuel lines and replaced the fuel assembly within the last month. It does not seem to be leaking gas anywhere.

Jun 19, 2019 · There are several things that can cause the engine to run rich. First, we need the Upstream O2 sensor plugged in and working. Without it the PCM will default to a predetermined table to control the AFR in open loop operation and it will be rich by default. Next, I would get a quality scan tool connected to this truck.

Jun 25, 2019 · If you're always running too rich or too lean, the computer will adjust the long-term fuel trim to bring things back to normal. This will be retained in memory even when the truck is off. Disconnecting the battery will erase it and it will have to relearn it again.

Feb 16, 2018 · It'll be fine for a few hours, sure, but several days would completely screw with the ECU's adaptive fueling strategy. Not to mention you're running what I imagine to be an aggressive tune, where the thresholds for lean/rich are dramatically different from stock. You were probably running super lean without the headers.

Aug 2, 2023 · I have a 2014 2500 6.4 and am having trouble fixing a P0172 and P0175 fuel system rich on bank 1 and 2 . I have replaced MAF, PCM update, throttle body and now 4 O2 sensors that the dealership diagnosed.

Oct 6, 2014 · They run rich from the factory. The mods you made should help to lean it out a bit. The DS tune is also a little leaner and a custom tune will lean it out a bit more but still on the rich (safe) side. Also, the factory tune will dump fuel to cool the cats if they get to hot, which makes it real rich. I had that tuned out in a custom HF tune.

May 29, 2019 · Current codes are P0171 (fuel sys 1/1 lean), P0172 (fuel sys 1/1 rich), P0135 (02 heater perf 2/2) and P0161 (heater perf 2/2). Truck needs an inspection and I don't want to damage anything by running too rich or too lean, so I'm asking how to figure out the problem that's causing these codes.

Mar 22, 2018 · I got a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L. It has ran rich ever since I got it in a swap a while back. I have gotten the problem better after working thru some codes but it still runs rich. After a couple hundred miles it will foul out the plugs. I have a fairly basic scan tool. It says bank one sensor 1 short term fuel trim.

Sep 11, 2015 · Its a 1998 dodge ram ss/t 5.9 and its running rough at idle and misfiring on cylinder 2 and 4. I changed the plugs (copper champions), wires (msd super conducter 8.5mm), cap and rotor (standard blue streak with brass contacts), and pre cat o2 sensor (ntk from dodge dealer). I checked for vacuum leaks and can't find any.
