The C-430 was a rare locomotive on the Conrail system, with only twelve on the original 1976 roster. Two of those units were former Reading Company engines. Ironically, Conrail wound up owning over three-quarters of all the C-430's ever built.

Yes, the 2d unit in pic 1 was a C430. I guess the ol' eyes can't even read my own writing any more! Somewhere I have a slide of one of RDG's two C430s leading a train, which was apparently somewhat unusual for one reason or another.

RDG C430 5211 was named Catawissa II. The only other RDG diesel that I know of that wore these plaques was C630 5300 which was named Rocket II. These were names of some of the earliest steam locomotives on the Philadelphia & Reading dating from the 1840s and 1850s.
