I thought "rdisk" was a typo in some instructions for a Raspberry Pi SD card image I was reading. Upon further investigation I googled the difference and found this thread. Turns out in my case it was 13 times faster to write a 1.7GB image to an SD card using /dev/rdisk instead of /dev/disk! Macbook Pro Retina 13", early 2015 model. –

May 30, 2011 · If I pick any of the Safe Mode options some text appears at the bottom in relation to multi disk rdisk partition\windows... and then some .dll, .nls and .sys files. I've tried booting from a backup disc but to no avail (I changed the BIOS settings to boot from the disc) but it still brings me to command prompt and nothing runs from there.

Dec 28, 2011 · The above depends entirely on your hardware setup as well as logical partition setup. You are likely using rdisk(0) for your internal hard drive. Also likely is that the OS is on partition(1). It's just a matter of incrementing the rdisk until you find the spot on the hard drive controller that has the hard drive in question.
