Is Yamaha Reface DX really that bad (compared to the real DX7)?
Ugh, I feel like the reface DX is the most misunderstood p roduct for no good reason other than Gearslutz people hating on it because they're Gearslutz. First, the 4 vs 7 OP issue is a bit silly. The Reface has feedback on each OP (variable waveform). This usually takes 2 OPs to do.

Skip the volca and just get the reface dx. Covers a lot of the same sonic territory and easily the most versatile. Unless you have an understanding of fm synthesis the volca will just be a preset box while it’s relatively easy to roll your own patches with the reface dx. It lends itself really well to sparkly glassy metallic spacey sounds.

Looking for a bigger alternative of Yamaha Reface CP for gigging
Used Yamaha CP4 or CP40. As far as I know, the Reface and the CP4/40 (which were released prior to the Reface) are the only boards where Yamaha used their Spectral Component Modeling for epianos. The CP40/40 actually have some finer controls than the Reface, like hammer strike position and velocity curves. The NW keyboard on the CP4 is terrific.
