The Reising Model 50 is a submachine gun chambered for the .30 Carbine cartridge, the .45-ACP pistol cartridge, and the .22 Long Rifle cartridge. It is blowback-operated, and ammunition is fed into the chamber by a detachable box magazine.

The Reising was a most innovative weapon featuring accuracy, firepower, lightweight and ease of manufacturing.

On paper, the Reising submachine gun appeared to be an ideal close-combat weapon. Accurate, lightweight, and inexpensive to manufacture, it was selected by the U.S. Marine Corps in 1941 to arm its fighting men whose duties prevented them from carrying a rifle. Once it went into battle, however, several design flaws became glaringly apparent.
