There is a test button on the ice maker. (Most models will require you to remove the ice bucket to view the ice maker.)

Wait till your food in it is low, then put the remaining food on ice or in another freezer, then unplug the refrigerator and open the doors so that the ice will melt. It's a pain, but ice makers are notorious for having problems.

Frost can accumulate, especially when ice is left to solidify in the tray, making it difficult, if not impossible, to remove the tray or extract ice. Removing the ice tray will not affect the effectiveness or coolness of the refrigerator. Please consult your frig's user manual for details.
