This article shows the current understanding of how RFG organizes it's maps and how they work. There are still many unknowns so this is subject to change. The main campaign map is used as the primary example but the concepts discussed here should also apply to the DLC campaign map, multiplayer maps, and wrecking crew maps.

However, RFG composition varies, and much RFG substantially over-complies with certain standards. Consequently, there is some area-to-area variation in RFG characteristics. The graphs show area-by-area comparisons of RFG benzene content, and complex model VOC, NOx and toxics emissions performance for selected years.

On January 15, 2025, EPA published an updated listing of the fuels approved in SIPs in the Federal Register. (See 90 FR 4320.) The updated list includes the states and Petroleum Administration for Defense Districts (PADDs) where the fuels are used. Issuance of this list and updates to the list are required by the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
