Flag of the Russian SFSR (right) on a 1954 stamp with the flag of the Ukrainian SSR (left). The stamp celebrates the 300th anniversary of the reunification of Ukraine with Russia. The penultimate USSR -era flag was adopted by the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR) in 1954 and used until 1991.

The flag of the Russian SFSR changed numerous times, with the original being a field of red with the Russian name of the republic written on the flag's centre in white. This flag had always been intended to be temporary, as it was changed less than a year after its adoption.

The longest in use flag (1954-1991) of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR), a constituent republic of the Soviet Union, was a red rectangular sheet with a sky-blue stripe at the pole, width of the stripe was 1/8 the length of the flag, charged with golden star and hammer-and-sickle in the upper hoist area of the red field.

2025年1月11日 · The Russian flag (white-blue-red) was approved as National flag in August 1991 by the Supreme Soviet of RSFSR and was used together with the soviet era flag for a few months until finally adopted by decree of the Congress of People’s Deputies in December 1991.

English: In March 1947, the chairman of the Secretary of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RFSFR Peter Bakhmurov opened the first meeting to create new national flag of the RFSFR. Since then, some proposals were created.

From June 1918, the flag was red with the gold Cyrillic characters РСФСР (RSFSR) in the top-left corner, in a traditional Vyaz' style of ornamental Cyrillic calligraphy. From 1920, the characters were redesigned as described by the Russian Constitution of 1925 .
