The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a large dog breed originally bred in Southern Africa. [1] The original breed standard was drafted by F.R. Barnes, in Bulawayo , Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe ), in 1922, and approved by the South African Kennel Union in 1927.

Typically strong, active, and of great endurance, the Rhodesian Ridgeback is a trim shorthaired dog with hanging ears and a glossy yellowish brown to reddish brown coat. It stands 24 to 27 inches (61 to 69 cm) tall at the withers and weighs 70 to 85 pounds (32 to 39 kg).
