Within PBN there are two main categories of navigation methods or specifications: area navigation (RNAV) and required navigation performance (RNP). In this context, the term RNAV x means a specific navigation specification with a specified lateral accuracy value.

This advisory circular (AC) establishes the RNAV 1 and RNAV 2 approval requirements for aircraft and en-route and terminal area operations. An operator may use alternate means of compliance, as long as such means are acceptable to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
