2009年6月18日 · From what I know, Rosewood is used for things like pegs, endpins, tailpieces and chinrests. Never heard of the actual instrument structure or sound boards being made of Rosewood. Generally the top is made of Spruce (I've heard of Pear being used) and the back, ribs, and neck are maple.

However I would advise anyone thinking about rosewood fittings to take a GOOD look at how the rosewood looks with the varnish on your violin. It's been my experience that many varnish colors and rosewood fittings simply look horrible together. Boxwood looks better with more violins than rosewood.

One of the things that I found most attractive about it when I bought it was, in fact, the rosewood accessories. My violin varnish is deep red, so I think that orangey boxwood would look weird on it.

2001年10月26日 · I just weighed a Hill style ebony violin tailpiece which came in at 11.3 grams (without fine tuner or 'Sacconi'). I then scooped out the underside with gouges and scrapers. I generally do this to tailpieces as it seems to produce a warmer sound, without compromising any of the structural integrity of the tailpiece.

Ebony is black (99%) of the time so it, like black shoes, looks fine with any color varnish. Unlike ebony and rosewood, boxwood needs to be finished to get its distinctive orange coloration.

If you look at the fingerboard while you play the violin you might start using the grain pattern to remember where to put your fingers. However sometimes the slabs cost more than the vintage guitars themselves ( A Brazilian rose wood classical from the 50s is currently worth about 300 but it does need quite a bit of work to acquire the full tonal possibility ) .
