The ALCO RS-11 is a class of diesel-electric locomotive rated at 1,800 hp (1.34 MW), that rode on two-axle trucks, having a B-B wheel arrangement. This model was built by both Alco (327 units) and Montreal Locomotive Works (99 units). Total production was 433 units. [1]

For this, our second run of HO RS-11s, we’ve tooled new hoods, roofs and details for Central Vermont, Delaware and Hudson, Duluth, Winnipeg and Pacific, Maine Central (and Portland Terminal) New York Central, Nickel Plate, Northern Pacific (and BN) and Seaboard Air Line. Yes, each one is different!

2024年12月27日 · The RS11 began a new class of road switcher for Alco. The model was the first offered with a low, short hood and came equipped with the manufacturer's newest prime mover. Unfortunately, it could not recapture the market from Electro-Motive.

Featuring a V-12, 1,800hp 251B diesel engine, the RS-11 was Alco’s answer to EMD’s very successful GP9. The turbocharged RS-11 accelerated faster, had a higher tractive effort rating and typically used less fuel than the competition. It was also quite versatile and could be found in heavy haul freight as well as passenger service.

2024年5月2日 · A new run of HO scale Alco RS11 diesel locomotives is now available from Rapido Trains. The model features many newly tooled, railroad-specific details; illuminated number boxes, class lights, and control stand lights; and a new five-pole, skew-wound motor.

2023年12月30日 · The ALCO RS-11 was introduced in 1956, replacing the RS-3 as ALCO's general-purpose four-axle road switcher. It used a 12-cylinder 251-series engine developing 1,800 horsepower, which proved more reliable than the earlier 244-series engine, and it was very similar in size and power to EMD's competing GP9 and GP18.
