Runcorn EFW - Viridor
CCS deployment at Runcorn is the foundation of our decarbonisation ambition. In May 2021, we announced our five-step action plan to achieve net zero emissions by 2040, and the ambition to be the first net negative emissions waste and recycling company in the UK by 2045. Runcorn CCS Project - Viridor
Viridor’s Carbon Capture Plant at Runcorn is the largest opportunity to accelerate deployment of CCS to decarbonise the waste sector. As the largest Energy from Waste (EFW) plant in the UK, Runcorn will capture nearly 1M tonnes of CO2 annually.
Runcorn Energy from Waste (EfW) facility is located to the North of the Runcorn site known as Weston Point. The EfW facility has a total capacity of approximately 350MW (thermal input) and is capable of generating up to approximately 86MW of electrical power and 110 tonnes per hour steam. The plant comprises of two parts: Phase 1 and Phase 2.
