You can also stand near the downed wire back through the building and he’ll stupidly run into it and die instantly. Just burn his darkness half-way with your flashlight, then shoot the flare gun once at him. All enemies near him die too.

You can even see his body right outside the huge hole in the wall at the visitors centre. Um...you're not gonna like the answer. He goes into the dark world and saves Alan.
