RWD 8s of the Polesie Operational Group were the last Polish aircraft in the sky during the campaign. They were flying reconnaissance missions during the Battle of Kock, and even threw hand grenades. A great number of RWD 8s were bombed by the Germans in air bases (unlike Polish combat aircraft) or burned by withdrawing Poles.

Most extensively built of all R.W.D. designs, the two-seat parasol-wing R.W.D.8 was first flown in prototype-form in late 1932. Its design incorporated a braced monoplane wing which had 12 of sweepback on its outer panels, fixed tailskid landing gear and open cockpits in tandem.

2022年6月14日 · The RWD 8’s main role was to carry messages between the increasingly isolated army groups and Warsaw, a dangerous task that often saw them fired on by the troops of both sides. The RWD 8 was also used to harass the Germans, and on 4 October one became the last Polish aircraft to attack the Germans, dropping grenades.

The RWD 8 aeroplane is the most popular pre-war aircraft, on which many civilian and military pilots trained, such as the heroes of September 1939 or the Battle of Britain. The plane was popular before the war and unique for Polish aviation. This year marks exactly 90 years since the first flights of its prototypes.
