The S class are a class of diesel locomotives built by Clyde Engineering, Granville for the Victorian Railways between 1957 and 1961. The S class was based on the Electro-Motive Diesel F7 design and were very similar to the GM12 class then being built by Clyde Engineering for the Commonwealth Railways.

Considered by many to be VR's last word in passenger locomotives, they were VR's first 3 cylinder steam loco's. This small class was built to run Melbourne to Albury passenger trains and spent their entire careers on the North East line.

The VR settled on Clyde Engineering to build a batch of 10 locomotives in 1957-1958 to be known as the S class and given the running numbers S300-S309. Shortly after their delivery construction commenced on a new standard gauge line from Albury to Melbourne to provide a link between Sydney and Melbourne.

On Wednesday 12 June 2024 T387 transferred privately owned diesel locomotive S300 along with ex-Southern Aurora carriages NAM2373 and PHA2395 from Goulburn to Melbourne for use by 707 Operations on standard gauge.

These models are Trainorama's first VR locomotive, featuring highly detailed and scale parts and excellent mechanisms. The locomotives are available in three main livery schemes with a couple of varieties of each scheme, representative of the individual locomotive.
