SAS vs SATA: What Is the Difference & Which Is Better?
2014年6月23日 · The second class of drives, labeled as “SATA/SAS Nearline Enterprise” in the above table, can have a SATA or SAS interface (same drive for either interface). For example, Seagate has two enterprise drives , where the first one has a SAS 12 Gbps interface and the second one has a SATA 6 Gbps interface.
Can SAS drives work on a SATA motherboard - Super User
The SAS connector is [..] form-factor compatible with SATA, allowing SAS or SATA drives to plug directly into a SAS environment whether for mission critical applications with high availability and high performance requirements or lower cost-per-gigabyte applications such as near-box storage.
lifespan - Are SAS drives really better than SATA? - Super User
2019年11月26日 · When googling 'SAS vs SATA' and the like, you get a lot of results that imply or directly state that SAS drives are always faster and always more reliable than SATA drives. Honestly, I doubt this. I've never worked in a professional server environment, but SAS seems to be outdated - looking on Amazon, Google or eBay for SAS drives results in ...
Can I connect a SATA disk on a SAS connector on the motherboard?
2015年6月7日 · Tests I've done show throughput drops proportionally to number of SATA drives connected to southbridge and results were horrific for 6 drives used simultaneously on Intel southbridge. SAS controller on your motherboard is probably LSI using 4 pcie lanes - throughput was the same if you use 1 or 12 SAS drives (i lost the link to that blog I made).
hard drive - Determining if motherboard has SAS compatibility …
2010年1月5日 · SATA controllers don't support SAS devices. SAS controllers often do support SATA devices. So far as I understand things. So no, you need a separate SAS RAID controller (or use plain SAS controller + software RAID - usually not recommended) See TomsHardware
How to connect a SATA III port to a SAS hard drive?
2020年2月8日 · On my motherboard, the ASUS Z9PA-D8, it says that it has a row of 8 SAS ports for connecting to SAS hard drives. Your getting confused. Your motherboard documentation indicates that the ASUS Pike 2008 add-on card is required for those 8 ports to work. What kind of cable should I buy to connect from this port to a usual SAS hard drive?
Do all drives need to be SAS or can one RAID array be SATA?
2019年5月21日 · We have a Dell PowerEdge T330 server. This machine has 8 hard drive bays which support either SAS or SATA drives. Currently, they're all SATA. We're looking to upgrade one of the RAID arrays to SAS drives, but from what I've seen, this machine expects one or the other, not a combination of both.

The problem seems to be with the SAS drives. I have swaped the 15k rpm SAS drives for two new SATA III 7.2k rpm drives, used them to build a new RAID 0 array off the same controller, dumped my Vista 64 OS onto it from an image I just made …
Capacity-Optimized Nearline SAS Drives Challenge SATA
2010年10月28日 · The adoption of SAS has driven costs down, and SATA drives and SAS drives now have a minimal cost difference. At the drive level itself, based on current street pricing, there is minimal price premium for capacity-optimized SAS. Capacity-optimized SAS drives also contribute to lower costs at the system-level.
How do I interpret SMART data for SAS disks? - Super User
2013年7月12日 · Delayed errors are errors that slow down other requests. ECC corrected errors aren't much of a worry on SCSI/SAS drives, we have drives deployed with hundreds of millions of them and they still run fine. Correction algorithm invocations is a bit more serious, those may require rereading/rewriting the disk, and retrying the ECC calculation.
