2020年8月6日 · The board you're looking at has one port on the SATA connectors shared to an M.2 port on the board. That being said, when you have a SATA based M.2 drive in the M.2 slot, SATA port 1 will be disabled. If you have an NVMe PCIe based SSD in the M.2 slot, SATA port 1 will be available.

2017年10月9日 · That's probably SAT6G 1 and 2 instead of 12, same with SATA3G that's 5 and 6 and not 56. For ease of use I would connect SSD to SATA6G-1 because BIOS looks for first port first. PS. Some start numbering with 0, others with 1 but it doesn't matter as BIOS could be set to BOOT first from any port.

Also, with only the WD plugged in I was able to install the Windows 7 when plugged into the SATA port number 2 of 4. 2019年7月2日 · If you have a SATA-based SSD in M2A, you lose SATA port #1, regardless of whether the port is "enabled" in the BIOS. If you have a SATA or NVMe SSD in M2M, you lose SATA ports #4 & #5 - again, regardless of the enabled/disabled status in the BIOS.

2021年10月13日 · Thank you all for the replies. I ended up plugging it into my SATA 4 Port and it works now. I have a MSI Z390 SLI Pro motherboard for the person who asked. The Motherboard manual said that you can't have anything plugged into the SATA 5 Port if you plug in a 2nd M.2, so I just moved the SATA plug into the MB's SATA 4 port and it's working good now.

Some motherboards have two different SATA controllers and in that case it might matter which port you plugged a drive into (for example, you would want to ensure that you plugged an SSD into a SATA 3 port).

So in all I use 1 SATA, 1 NVMe (NVMe to SFF-8643 to U.2, yes it's complicated, U.2 isn't a common connector so I had to use adapters, but hey it works great) and 1 PCIe slot for storage. Had I not had a NAS, I might have had 1 or 2 HDDs, using SATA. So at most I'd personally need 3 SATA ports.

Moving it to a SATA 2 port, while not devastating, does reduce performance. The SATA ports are usually color-coded if you have mixed speed ports.
