The EMD SD50 is a 3,500-horsepower (2,610 kW) diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division. It was introduced in May 1981 as part of EMD's "50 Series"; production ceased in January 1986.

In 2006, CSX embarked on a program to de-rate the horsepower of the SD50 from 3500 to 3000 resulting in the new classification of the SD50-2 and somewhat improved performance. Two years later, another project commenced that upgraded existing systems---rebuilt 645 prime mover rated @ 3000 HP, microprocessor control, electronic air braking.
