These pages document the construction of seven different types of Software Defined Radio (SDR) and SDR-related kits from Tony Parks' Softrock line. In addition, links to documentation of all of the earlier Softrock kits can be found at Cecil's K5NWA website.

What is SDR? There are many definitions for Software Defined Radio. The essence of each definition is that some or all of the traditional functionality of a radio is handled in software on a computer, rather than in circuitry in a traditional radio.

Soundcards capable of higher sampling rates (e.g. 96 kHz or 192 kHz) will yield proportionately wider bandwidth, provided their internal audio filters do not cut off the higher audio frequencies.

Download Rocky from the Downloads section of this web site, unzip and run Setup.exe. Follow the on-screen instructions; Start Rocky and click on View / Settings in the menu. Select the input and output devices, and specify the sampling rate. If you have two sound cards, select different cards for input and output.
