Each year, we distribute more than 2,000 axe handles to new students. Every decorated axe handle is a true original that reflects each student's unique personality. It's a tradition like no other, and most students keep this symbol of pride throughout their college career and beyond.

One of the most visible ways to show your Lumberjack spirit is our "Axe 'em, Jacks" hand sign. When the hand signal made its first appearance during a pep rally in fall 1979, it was instantly embraced by the student body. Since then, it has become the definitive symbol of SFA pride to generations of Lumberjacks.

AXEperience is the university-sponsored student organization responsible for preserving and promoting the spirit and traditions that make the Lumberjack experience unique. The group strives to be the main facilitators of Lumberjack Spirit across campus, supporting SFA athletic teams both at home and away.
