The new COSMOS@DiRAC supercomputer is an SGI® Altix UV2™ system and includes 1856 cores of Intel® Xeon® family processors and 14.8 terabytes of cache coherent shared memory in five racks. The system includes the latest NUMAlink® 6 interconnect technology, optimized for ultra-low latency data access as well fast general purpose communication.

The UK Computational Cosmology Consortium (COSMOS), based at the University of Cambridge, has selected SGI's Altix UV 1000 to support its research.

COSMOS have chosen SGI as its new technology partner for a new shared-memory node, as part of the STFC funded COSMOS@DiRAC collaboration. This extends the long-standing relationship between COSMOS and SGI, which stretches back to 1997.
