2009年8月12日 · I have a 1987 chevy suburban 4x4 350 with a 700r4 tranny. It is my bug out truck. I can haul a full sheet of plywood inside the cabin with all doors closed, and still carry 3-4 passengers on the front seat. Parts are ubiquitous, and everything is pretty easy to get to.

2011年3月11日 · Why '85 or older? There are diesels newer than that which are EMP resistant. My '97 Dodge Cummins 4x4 truck doesn't have any computers that the engine depends on. If the truck has a solenoid controlling the fuel shut off, then you could probably replace that with a push/pull cable. A manual switch for glow plugs or manifold heater.

Equipped with the ZF-5 5 speed manual transmission (keep in mind this is a commercial transmission, so it doesn't like fast shifts) One of two engines depending on year- Pre-1988 would go to the 6.9L IDI and from there to 1994.5 the 7.3L IDI.

2022年2月24日 · I've read many posts similar to this one extolling the virtues of Ham and GMRS as the ultimate SHTF radio and they all miss the point in my view. 1) Every radio is first and foremost line of sight and are limited to line of sight range unless repeaters are involved. If the SHTF the repeaters are probably not going to be maintained.

2016年1月10日 · I know a guy who run his 7.3L Powerstroke truck purely on used transmission fluid, but I'm not sure if you can do that on the newer diesel engines. You already mentioned the heating oil as a backup, which is illegal for normal situations, but SHTF, that's the least of your worries. Also, you can store diesel much safer than gas.

2010年8月28日 · About any pre-79 or so full sized truck would be easy for me to keep running based off of my experience with various makes over the years. I've had many that were 'hanging on" for years on end. Parts aren't as common as they used to be, but really, you don't need that much to keep one going. A few spare items, and you'll get by for a long time.
