Three Keys to Preventing Serious Injuries and Fatalities
2021年5月24日 · Answering four key questions can help you identify work activities with greater SIF potential and the circumstances that can lead to a SIF. What high-risk activities are workers involved in? What precursors could lead to a significant injury or fatality? What incidents could result from these precursors?
a common definition of SIF. The short answer is that SIF occurrence is para-doxical, and collaboration is required to make progress toward SIF elimination. Although, fortunately, SIFs are rare in a single company, their rarity makes it challenging, if not impossible, to trend, learn and improve from their occurrence.
We believe that it is time for OSHA to under-take a national initiative to track incidents with SIF potential, identify their precur-sors and take steps to bring these rates down. Doing so can significantly reduce workplace fatalities and life-altering inju-ries in the U.S. over the next decade.
An SIF precursor is a high-risk situation in which management controls are either absent, ineffective, or not complied with, and which will result in a serious or fatal injury if allowed to continue.
The potential for an SIF is variable across the range of less serious injuries that occur, reflecting the fact that SIF potential varies among different types of exposure. For example, a back strain from lifting a load has little SIF exposure potential, while a fall from an elevated work position has high SIF exposure.

SIF Prevention: Two Frameworks for Success - Occupational Health & Safety
2022年4月12日 · In the report, the Campbell Institute outlined two different frameworks for serious injury and fatality (SIF) prevention efforts: cumulative risk assessment and social network analysis.
many organizations have begun to explore potential SIF (PSIF) events. If companies adopt a common method of defining and classifying PSIF events and share data within their respective communities, safety professionals could transition from the fragmented and isolated analysis of a handful of SIF events to an integrated method of learning
