
Enabling SMB Signing, anything to watch out for? : r/sysadmin
2023年4月11日 · I have SMB signing enabled on 3 different domains I work on. The only issue with it was it broke migrations on Hyper-V clusters. We have those systems exempted from SMB signing as we were never able to find a working solution. It may cause issues for other kinds of Windows Failover Clusters, but I'm not sure as the only ones we have are Hyper-V.

SMB is a whole lot more than that. Quite apart from files, SMB also handles access to printers (and a bunch of other stuff too, like sharing of serial ports, interprocess communication, and more - but barely anyone uses it for more than files and printers). Even narrowing the focus to files, it has a completely different model to that of FTP.

@mungiki69 I was looking into the course as well. I spoke to Contrarianthinking (codie Sanchez) and SMB deal hunter (Helen Guo). The main difference I saw for the latter was: it has more hand holding and they actually help you buy a business. The course is not the focus.

2022年1月4日 · I solved it by setting the firewall rule to allow the source of the smb client to us any port but restricting the target to smb server and the usual smb ports 137-139, 445. My conclusion was that after handshaking the smb client spun up a process which used an ephemeral port to connect to the smb server on standard smb ports.

2024年6月30日 · The default SMB config DOES NOT ALLOW WINDOWS TO CONNECT. To fix this first you need to enable SSH. After that you need to connect to your NAS using your admin username. (then see below) Next, edit this file using nano or vim or whatever you prefer: /etc/samba/smbglb.conf the line you need to change is ntlm auth = ntlmv2 only.

It makes the most sense, could be configured without you realizing what's happening, and has good explanatory power re incoming access attempts from across the world.
