SMC protein - Wikipedia
SMC complexes represent a large family of ATPases that participate in many aspects of higher-order chromosome organization and dynamics. [1][2][3] SMC stands for Structural Maintenance of Chromosomes. Eukaryotes have at least six SMC proteins in individual organisms, and they form three distinct heterodimers with specialized functions:

Genetic Regulation of SMC Gene Expression and Splicing Predict …
2023年1月4日 · We identify 84 genes whose expression and 164 genes whose splicing are regulated by loci associated with increased risk for CAD. We discover distinct genetic architectures of gene expression in quiescent and proliferative SMC phenotypes. We predict that long noncoding RNA SNHG18 is a likely causal transcript for CAD and affects SMC proliferation.
Genome control by SMC complexes - Nature
2021年3月25日 · Structural maintenance of chromosomes (SMC) protein complexes are molecular machines that can provide structure to chromatin. These complexes can connect DNA elements in cis,...
SMC3 gene - MedlinePlus
The SMC3 gene provides instructions for making a protein that is part of the structural maintenance of chromosomes (SMC) family. Within the nucleus, SMC proteins help regulate the structure and organization of chromosomes. The protein produced from the SMC3 gene helps control chromosomes during cell division. Before cells divide, they must copy ...
The many functions of smc proteins in chromosome dynamics
2002年10月1日 · SMC proteins have a role in chromosome condensation, sister-chromatid cohesion, DNA repair and recombination, and gene dosage compensation, and they function in somatic and meiotic cells. As...
SMC Complexes Link Gene Expression and Genome Architecture
The Structural Maintenance of Chromosomes (SMC) complexes are associated with transcriptional enhancers, promoters and insulators, where they contribute to the control of gene expression and genome structure. We review here recent insights into the interlinked roles of SMC complexes in gene expression and genome architecture.

This gene belongs to the SMC3 subfamily of SMC proteins. The encoded protein occurs in certain cell types as either an intracellular, nuclear protein or a secreted protein. The nuclear form, known as structural maintenance of chromosomes 3, is a component of the multimeric cohesin complex that holds together sister chromatids during mitosis ...
Genetic Regulation of SMC Gene Expression and Splicing Predict …
2023年1月4日 · Given that vascular smooth muscle cells (SMCs) play critical roles in the development and progression of CAD, we aimed to identify the subset of the CAD loci associated with the regulation of transcription in distinct SMC phenotypes.
