For the last 20 years, the Special Operations Peculiar Modification (SOPMOD) program has been equipping Special Operations Forces (SOF) with optics and accessories that allow them to shoot faster, farther, and more accurately than the enemy.

This year marks the 20th anniversary the Special Operations Peculiar Modification (SOPMOD) program has been in use with U.S. Army Special Forces (SF). I carried and used a SOPMOD-equipped M4A1 carbine during my entire SF career.

A shorter, more compact version of the M16A2 rifle, it was specially designed for U.S. Special Operations Forces. In 1994, U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and the Navy developed the Special Operations Peculiar (SOPMOD) M4A1 Accessory Kit to make this weapon exceptional in versatility, lethality, and effectiveness.
