A video about the life of the SRF nuns. Paramahansa Yogananda founded SRF in 1920 to disseminate his teachings of Kriya Yoga. He established a monastic order to sustain the global growth of SRF and spread the science of yoga among all nations.

The 2020 SRF World Convocation is a weeklong program of classes on Paramahansa Yogananda’s “how-to-live” teachings and meditation techniques, online guided group meditations and kirtans (devotional chanting), virtual pilgrimage tours to the ashrams where the great guru lived and communed with God, and more.

Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF) is a worldwide religious organization founded in 1920 by Paramahansa Yogananda, the Indian guru who authored Autobiography of a Yogi. Before moving to the United States, Yogananda began his spiritual work in India in 1917 and named the organization Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS).

Monks and nuns of the Self-Realization Order embrace a four-fold vow of renunciation: simplicity, celibacy, obedience, and loyalty. Through these vows, the renunciant pledges himself to a way of life that will draw him, it is believed, to union with God.

As monks and nuns have continued entering the SRF ashrams over the years, we are now facing a shortage of living and working space for our monastic community. In order to provide room for a larger community of SRF nuns in Encinitas, we began using the previous Encinitas retreat facility as a nuns’ ashram in 2023.
