Southern Shorthaul Railroad is an Australian rail freight services operator in New South Wales and Victoria. The company also provides workshop services, such as rolling stock manufacturing and wagon and locomotive maintenance.

SSR provides train crew, recovery locomotives and train management for the testing of new locomotives built by the two largest ,locomotive manufacturers in Australia – United Group Limited and Downer Rail.

The event was the brain-child of Southern Shorthaul Railroad (SSR) locomotive engineer Bernie Baker who first envisioned the iconic celebration in 2000 and nurtured the idea until it fully materialized sixteen years later.

On Friday 1 July 2022 SSR locomotives T386 and T385 lead Comeng set 400M-1050T-331M and 393M-1048T-394M from Newport Workshops to the North Bendigo Workshops for scrapping.

On Friday 15 March 2024 surplus V/Line N class locomotives N464, N455, N466 and N463 were transferred from South Dynon to Tottenham Yard, where they were handed over to Southern Shorthaul Railroad on hire to run freight services.

2023年4月25日 · MANILDRA Group has signed a long-term agreement with Australian rail freight operator Southern Shorthaul Railroad (SSR) to manage and operate its rail services in New South Wales (NSW) from November 1 2024, as the company invests $A 200m ($US 133.3m) in its own fleet of locomotives and wagons.
