The STV-380 assault rifle is a gas operated, select fire weapon. It features a battle-proven Kalashnikov action with two-lug rotary bolt and long stroke gas piston. The receiver is machined from a block of steel, and features a detachable top cover, stamped from the sheet steel.

STV stands for “Vietnamese submachine gun”, designed by the Institute of Weapons and produced by Factory Z111 (both under the General Department of Defense Industry). The gun is designed based on the Galil ACE gun model of the IWI Group (Israel), which signed a technology transfer contract with Vietnam.

In 2020, two new variants of the STV rifles were revealed. These rifles were designated as the STV-410 and the STV-416. Compared to the previous two variants, the new ones would adopt more AK parts into the guns. Currently, the STV-022, STV-215 and STV-380 remain as the standard issued rifles and being the only ones which are in mass production.
