Great Ape (大 おお 猿 ざる Ōzaru)[1] is a giant, anthropomorphic, ape and monkey -like creature that the Saiyans of Universe 7 can transform into at the full moon (or a similar object) to increase their already formidable strength tremendously.

By combining Great Ape and Super Saiyan, a Saiyan becomes a Golden Great Ape. Their offensive capacities have become much greater, and their rage is even more intense than the standard Great Ape's. While in the Golden Great Ape state, the power and strength of a Saiyan increase extraordinarily.

The Golden Great Ape is a transformation linked to the 'legendary Super Saiyan' within Saiyan lore. When a Great Ape achieves Super Saiyan status, they become a Golden Great Ape, a prerequisite for Super Saiyan 4. This transformation is rare and requires a Saiyan to be pure of heart and driven by fury.
