Sandiacre is 7 miles west of Nottingham and 9 miles east of Derby. It is part of the Greater Nottingham urban area. It is on the western side of the River Erewash from Stapleford in Nottinghamshire. Sandiacre is adjoined by Long Eaton to the south and Risley to the west.

Sandiacre was probably first settled in Saxon times. By the time of the Domesday Survey in 1086, the Manor of Sandiacre was held under the king by Toli, one of the royal thanes and there was a church with a priest and a mill. The whole village was valued at 40 shillings.

Stapleford and Sandiacre railway station served the towns of Stapleford, Nottinghamshire and Sandiacre, Derbyshire, England from 1847 to 1967 on the Erewash Valley Line. The station opened as Sandiacre and Stapleford on 6 September 1847 by the Midland Railway. It closed on 1 May 1872 [1] but a second station opened on the same day.
