2018年2月20日 · The SARO "Lerwick" (Model A.36) was perhaps one of its more forgettable designs in that design flaws and tricky handling severely hampered its service record, leading to just twenty-one of the aircraft being delivered. Its accident rate proved so high that the type was retired as soon as 1942 though the series was only in service since mid-1939.

While landing on Lough Erne, Northern Ireland, the seaplane hit violently the water surface and bounced. The pilot in command increased power on the right engine when the aircraft banked left at an angle of 45°. The left wing hit the water and the aircraft ground looped and came to rest.

The crew was unable to maintain a safe height on just one engine and the aircraft hit a hillside near Faslane, north of Helensburgh.
