2024年1月29日 · I use sas ssd for read optimized drives (writes slower, designed for performant read workflows). I tend to use 3-4tb nvme pcie drives for caches because they’re priced nicely and outperform sas3 speeds but their cost is different as I need pcie adapters and the power and heat draw is different. Options are a good thing.

2020年8月21日 · I got some Seagate Nytro 3730 SSDs (SAS3) that can top 1200 MB/s on a single ported backplane and have NVME-like performance on IOPS and latency. They can go even higher on a dual-port system that uses 2 links (top and bottom side of the SAS connector), like an external SAS JBOD. Rated for 10 DWPD. No SATA drive comes close on IOPS.

2022年10月20日 · -16 SAS3 Enterprise/HP SSDs (used) @ 3.84 TB - with ~95% life left on them The server has a SAS3 backplane and HBA - didn't know if there would be a huge difference in speed between SAS3/2 with a smaller disk quantity, or SAS2/SATA III (which I figured would be about equal), etc.

2022年12月12日 · Windows shows the controller as "Avago adapter sas3 3008 fury - StorPort" and says the driver is good, but I don't see any sign of the connected drives, or any UI to set up the controller. Are there any good guides for this?

2024年6月6日 · I was told the backplane is: BPN-SAS3-116A-N2 and the chassis supports 10 2.5in drives. They went out and purchased 10 5TB SATA3 drives. Upon reading up on this backplane, I don't believe it will work - my understanding is that the chassis and backplane only supports 8 2.5in SATA3 drives with the other 2 only supporting NVMe storage only.

2022年5月22日 · That chipset is capable of 12G -per port-If you have it on an external JBOD you should have 4lane cables so 24gbit with a single port (assuming 6G) - 48 with dual port out of a dual port card to a dual port JBOD.

Whichever you end up going with get a SAS3 card for the motherboard if you can (you can get sff-8643 to sff-8087 cables if you end up with a SAS2 backplane). Newer OS’s, mainly RHEL-based (Red Hat, CentOS, Fedora, etc) have removed a lot …
