The sand-coloured beret of the Special Air Service is officially designated the beige beret. [1] The beige beret was worn from 1942 till 1944. In 1944, when the SAS returned to the UK they were forced to adopt the maroon beret of the airborne forces as they became part of that command (see Special Air Service Troops).

The Special Air Service (SAS) is a special forces unit of the British Army. It was founded as a regiment in 1941 by David Stirling, and in 1950 it was reconstituted as a corps. From 17 February to 10 October 1971, Trooper Barnby deployed to South Vietnam as a member of Two Five Patrol, F Troop, 2 Squadron, SASR. Based out of the 1st Australian Task Force base at Nui Dat, Phuoc Tuy Province, they conducted clandestine reconnaissance and offensive operations against the North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong.

On August 20th, 1964, the SAS finally became a full Regiment consisting of three "Sabre" Squadrons, a Training Squadron, and a Headquarters. The SASR was modelled after the British SAS. The SAS had previously worn a red beret (indicating them as a Parachute Company) with the Infantry Corps Cap Badge.

Qualified SASR members wear a sand-coloured beret with metal gold- and silver-winged dagger badge on a black shield. This differs from the British 22 SAS, which has a woven cap badge of the same design.

2020年11月20日 · Chief of Army LTGEN Rick Burr has removed 2 Squadron, Special Air Service Regiment from the Army's Order of Battle following the release of the IGADF inquiry into war crimes committed in Afghanistan. In a statement, LTGEN Burr said that crimes had been committed 'throughout the Regiment' but that there was a 'nexus of activities' in 2 Squadron.

The British SAS are the special forces regiment on which all others are based and the Australians have their own SASR (Special Air Service Regiment) and the New Zealanders have 1 New Zealand SAS Group, both of which are equally nails - a Kiwi recently winning the VC.
