2022年11月23日 · colleges dont really care and yes 1550 is an arbitrary threshold. you could argue that colleges dont care about a 1540 vs a 1600 or a 1530 vs a 1600 (usually a bigger difference there though, obviously). It just happens that most of the T20 SAT score medians/75th percentile are somewhere in the 1550+ range, thus why it doesn't make much of a difference.

Some folks make substantial money as standardized test tutors and scoring a 36 on the ACT is a great credential as would scoring higher on the SAT. In terms of college admissions, a 1550 SAT score is fine, although the 790 out of 800 on the math portion might bother one.

A 1550 will be perfectly fine at the schools you're applying to and now that you've hit that threshold score, ECs and hooks are what matter most so if you have a choice between scoring higher or doing something special with an EC, I would go for the EC.

Most top colleges will evaluate your application “holistically,” but you still have to establish yourself as a serious contender for admission first, which is usually basic stats like GPA + test scores. Your 1550 SAT will make it more likely that your application is read thoroughly. Your GPA is definitely going to impact your chances, though.
