State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECH) are hours earned by attending professional development activities provided by SCECH Sponsors and approved by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). These hours can be used for renewal and progression of certificates and licenses issued by MDE.

The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) encourages the development and use of State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECH) to support Michigan educators in the renewal and maintenance of MDE issued certificates, licenses, and credentials. Michigan School Counselors are required to earn 25 hours in career exploration, of which 5 hours must be in military options, as well as 25 hours in college preparation and selection* every 5 years as part of the total 150 hours of required professional learning.
