The Sturmgeschütz IV (StuG IV) (Sd.Kfz. 167) was a German assault gun variant of the Panzer IV used in the latter part of the Second World War. It was identical in role and concept to the highly successful StuG III assault gun variant of the Panzer III.

The Sturmgeschütz IV (SdKfz. 167), or StuG IV, self-propelled assault guns were built by mating 7.5 cm KwK 40 vehicle guns and Panzer IV chassis without the use of turrets. They were deployed largely to support infantry divisions, but the powerful guns made them effective tank destroyers as well.

Is it possible that the Waffenamt accidentally assigned .163 in anticipation of production for the original .IV model? This is the only logical explanation as to why I have seen the StuG.IV labeled with both SdKfz numbers.
