2008年3月3日 · Does anyone know of a good substance to use as a seam compound below the waterline that comes in a tube and can be applied with a caulking gun? I see that 3M 101 says it's for use above and below the waterline.
Caulking-Sealing Seams Below the Waterline
Sealing that raw wood with multiple coats – at least three – of Smith’s Clear penetrating Epoxy Sealer (CPES) is an absolute must. Doing so reduces the wood’s ability to absorb water dramatically. We have seen and anguished over way too many bottoms where 3M5200 was forced into the plank seams in a misguided attempt at caulking them.

I am opening seams that are up to 3/16” wide, which is at the outer limit of what it can bridge effectively, but we will use Interlux Seam Sealer for below-waterline applications. It cures, holds paint, and makes a watertight seal, but, even when cured, it never becomes hard.

2008年3月5日 · Oil based seam compounds are the right stuff for lightly built boats. Linseed oil will loosen most commonly available compounds without substantially altering their makeup. Just a bit goes a long way.
