Unfortunately, the model 1 is plagued with reliability issues such as bad tray belts, dirty limiter switches, faulty helix/Archimedes screws on Sony drives, and leaky capacitors.

After doing some research it appears there were a few different CD trays in the system over the years and one is harder to come by, JVC. Is there a way to tell by model number or serial number what drive this has?

The JVC X'Eye was a partnership console between JVC and Sega. It combined a Sega CD and Genesis into a single console. It was released in March (?)1994 and was produced into late 1994 with a little over 500,000 units produced (?), however parts can still be found for it today via JVC.

In 2007, I pulled this drive apart to repair it, only to end up swapping the entire drive assembly from my third unit (given to me as non-working). I have since fully restored that third Model 1, and it wants its drive back.

Some videos suggest turning a black gear, but I'm not seeing this gear on this drive. It is a JVC drive, which I hear is rare compared to the Sony branded drives.
