2013年11月3日 · depends on your skill level and how flat your glue joints are. I have made segmented pieces that are less than 1/8", however I feel the 1/4 to 3/8" suggestion is a good one. More important is learning all you can about Wood movement and how that affects segmented pieces. Malcom Tibbetts book on Segmented turning is the best out there.

2008年1月1日 · I still use the rub joint method for some segmented work. I put glue on one piece rub it against the other and then hold them for the cound of 20. This is done on wax paper. I leave that pair alone and go to the next pair. Then glue pairs together etc. This lets me check them at 45, 90 and 180 for accuracy and sand to make them fit perfect.

2011年10月8日 · The finger joint bowl was made the same way. The top rings went together without a problem, but the four pieces that make the bottom, was almost impossible to get together because of the glue trying to squeeze out a much longer distance.

2012年6月8日 · All of my early turnings were segmented. I didn't know you could turn green wood and dry wood that thick was unattainable. I did segmented work a lot back then and have always done a piece every now and then. I can't sell them for the time it takes to make them so I seldom do one anymore although that's going to change now that I retired.
