The PK (Russian: Пулемёт Калашникова, transliterated as Pulemyot Kalashnikova, or "Kalashnikov's machine gun"), [4] is a belt-fed general-purpose machine gun, chambered for the 7.62×54mmR rimmed cartridge. The modernized and most commonly known variant, known as the PKM, features several enhancements over the original PK design.

2025年3月13日 · At the IDEX 2025, Zastava Arms from Serbia presented their version of modernized PKM called M84M. There are a few key improvements: the M84M machine gun has a Picatinny rail on the receiver cover and elevated iron sights. The rear sight is attached to the rail. M84M also has a new stock that resembles FN MAG.

The M84 is a licensed copy of the Soviet Union's PKM, with a few differences such as a differently shaped stock, and a slightly longer and heavier barrel which has slightly different measurements at the gas port and forward of the trunnion in diameter.

Infantry units are equipped with modern infantry weapons, optoelectronic, thermal imaging and ballistic protection, modeled on equipping M21 infantry soldiers and the 1500+ project.

• M84; Yugoslavia (Serbia) The designation PKMS is given to PKM weapons that are mounted on a tripod. The weapons do not differ from each other, so this Weapons ID Sheet does not ascribe the designation PKMS to a specific model of PK machine gun. PKMSN models, similarly, feature a basic PKM weapon with tripod and night sights.

The PKM is an improved version of the original PK that entered service in 1969. It is a lightened version that is made out of stamped metal and uses a non-fluted barrel and shorter muzzle brake. The M in PKM stands for Modernizirovannyi, which is Russian for modernized.
