Betahistine, sold under the brand name Serc among others, is an anti-vertigo medication. It is commonly prescribed for balance disorders or to alleviate vertigo symptoms. It was first registered in Europe in 1970 for the treatment of Ménière's disease, but current evidence does not support its efficacy in treating it. [4] [5]

Serc is used to treat a disorder of your inner ear. This disorder may include one or more of the following symptoms, in one or both ears: problems with balance (vertigo) These symptoms may also be associated with nausea, vomiting and headache. Often these symptoms together are referred to as Meniere's Syndrome.

Method of administration: Should be swallowed with water. The dosage should be individually adapted according to the response. Improvement can sometimes only be observed after a couple of weeks of treatment. The best results are sometimes obtained after a few months.

Serc is available in two strengths, an 8 mg tablet and a 16 mg tablet. The usual starting dose is 16 mg three times a day (48 mg). Your doctor may lower your dose to 8 mg three times a day (24 mg).
